Would a picoboot be worth it just for save data backups?

[Released: 2001] The GameCube, with the Game Boy Player attachment, it is able to play Game Boy/Color, and Game Boy Advance titles. It's successor, the Wii, supports backward compatibility. Panasonic released a DVD player hybrid Gamecube.

Or would I be better off with a high capacity memory card?
I'm not super into homebrew games or whatever, though I understand an alternative to the wavebird adapter is also in the works, will I need a pico for that?
