Not freeing up space on external hard drive.

I am using a Pi 4 with an external hard drive connected to it as a plex server. I have noticed that if I delete a video off of the external drive the drive does not show that any space has been freed up, I've looked and nothing is in the trash can. Any help would be appreciated.
