System is modded. Can I use an original 8bitdo adapter or do I HAVE to use the ps classic compatible version?

I did not realize there were multiple versions of the 8bitdo wireless adapter, and I have the original brown one, not the Grey ps classic one. My system is modded. Is there anyway to use the original adapter I have or do I need to have the Grey one?
