Gameshark parallel port vs CD

[Released: 1994] Sony entered into an agreement with Nintendo to develop a CD-ROM attachment, for the Super Nintendo. Due to contractual problems it was never released, and instead, a modified version was introduced by Sony called the PlayStation.

Gameshark parallel port vs CD

Post by /playstation »

Looking at buying an original PS1 and deciding on model. The reason I can see getting anything older than a 900x is for the parallel port. The only thing I used it for was Gameshark. Really the only other thing I could see using it for is a PSIO, and I really don't have a desire to get one.
I'm curious if there was any benefit to having a Gameshark that ran on the parallel port as opposed to the cd/memory card option? There's the obvious that you don't have to swap discs after selecting codes, but that is a minor inconvenience.
Is there anything outside of disc-swapping on Gameshark that having the parallel port version would be better for? Thanks!
