Which NES?

Question. I want to get back into NES. But I have no idea how to know if I’m getting a workable console. Is there a new version of the console that plays game more reliably that the old days? I do have the NES mini with like 30 preloaded games and that’s awesome. But I wanna start buying cartridges and just don’t know what console options are readily available, and perhaps more reliable than my old system from the time of stonewashed jeans.
