RetroArch audio settings

I only recently set up my PSClassic to be modded and Vagrant Story was one of the first games I loaded up. I noticed during the early cutscene that the explosions and thunder in the background of the game sounded horrible. Very crackly and distorted, definitely not how it normally sounds. I also noticed as soon as you start the game after the intro that the background audio of the voices in the dungeon sounds distorted as well. Any advice on audio settings that can be adjusted in RA that could help with this? The audio is coming out from my soundbar.
