Google AIY Vision Kit for bird watching?

Post by /RaspberryPi »

Can anyone recommend software to run on the Raspberry Pi Zero W in my Google AIY Vision Kit v1.1 that will watch my bird feeder and save a photo when a bird lands on it?
I found a couple of projects that are both about four years old, but I don't know enough Python (and Twitter!) to fix either of them. The AIY Kits are from 2017-18, and it looks like Python has left them behind -- but that Vision Bonnet is really nice, and I don't want it to go to waste.
The first project is at https://github.com/jaydeetay/hummingbot; it uses a Google AIY Vision board to watch for birds, and tweet when it sees one. I have found a few Python2-isms that Google helped me fix, but the whole thing errors out. I have tweaked bits here and there, but...I am beyond the edge of my skills.
I also considered the project at https://www.hackster.io/larrylindsey/yacht-tv-366783, but I can't get it to notice birds...or even to run.
Alternately, should I just reformat the SD card and use some entirely other project that will take advantage of the Vision Bonnet? I just want to take pictures of birds, you know?
Thank you.
