Can’t work multiplayer (im a noob)

Bit of faffing around but I’m now using autobleem.
I purchased a USB hub (see link below) to use in the first controller USB port, for accessing multiplayer functions, while using the second port for the flash drive.

I only tried it once, but still, it didn’t seem to recognise controllers? The lights on it did light up however.
Is it possible for this to work? Do I need to do some other configuration? I assume if it doesn’t, I’ll have to get the OTG adapter thing.
