Cant Access External Drive after a Random Time

My external hard drive is not accessible after some time, although it is on. (Light on the hard disk is on).
My guess is that when my Mac does a Timemachine backup to this hard drive, it eventually stops working. The disk is configured with OMV and then it can't be found there either. Also via the Pi it is no longer findable with fdisk. A reboot helps.
Why I think Timemachine is probably the problem is when my Mac was off for 5 days, the disk was still available.
I had already posted the error here in OMV, unfortunately I came there to no solution.
