Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro and Lag/Frame Rate Issues

Is the ASP suppose to lag? There's always a delay or frame issue with getting menus to load or games to run smoothly. I don't remember this happening with the Mini Arcade. I put the unlocked games from SNK on here and started playing Metal Slug. Frame rate drops when there are a lot of enemies on screen and text like "Mission Complete" swirls in a stuttered way. Is this normal or do I have a bad ASP? I got mine from Amazon.
