Using a 256 GB Onn SSD with PS Classic?

I've been trying to do this all last night. I was wondering, is there any way I could get this SSD to work with the PS Classic? I'm not quite sure why it won't. I formatted to FAT32 and everything, I can't quite seem to get things going. My USB doesn't have enough space, not even close.
