Sonic CD Question!

[Released: 1988] The Sega Genesis was Sega's most successful console; though Sega has never released a total sales figure quote. Several add-ons were created including the Sega CD and Sega 32X which extended its capabilities.

Sonic CD Question!

Hi there.. new here. I have a technical question. I'm really interested in getting back into old school gaming starting with a Genesis and CRT TV.
If I want to play the Japanese version of Sonic CD do I need a Japanese Megadrive and Sega CD system? Will they work in North America power outlet? Or can I mix a NA Genesis with a JP Sega CD
From my understanding in a quick search the Sega CD systems are region locked so it seems a bit confusing .. any help would be greatly appreciated!!
