alternatives to wiringPi

(C++) I'm looking to use several serial ports on the pi 4, and don't want to spend a bunch of time learning termios. The website for wiringPi says it is pre-installed in Raspbian, but other sources I found state that it is deprecated and has been removed from the latest builds, and indeed it seems to be missing from mine. Is there a new standard library to provide this functionality? Or should I just install wiringPi?
