Can't seem to open PPSSPP menu on raspberry pi 4 (using retropie), no matter what buttons I press on my controller OR keyboar

I'd like to open up the PPSSPP menu so that I can fiddle around with settings and enable the frameskip option, but I've tried literally every button on my keyboard (yes, ESC included, and the pi 4 I'm using is built into its keyboard), and my controller, which has every single button mapped, and yet, absolutely nothing opens up the PPSSPP menu.
Does anyone know what the issue here might be?
