Can't get cheats to work in Project Eris' Retroarch

I've recently upgraded from Bleemsync to PE and I run my PSX games from the carousel menu using Retroarch. When playing I try to enable my cheats, but they do not register, after selecting them I'm thrown out of all menus back into the game. I tried to have them all in 1 .cht file, all seperate in their own .cht files but neither seems to work. As a note, they're in retroarch/cheats/PCSX-ReARMed. Does anyone know what I' doing wrong? I don't want to have to type them all in because they're quite long and there is a fair few of them.
