Data reading from Diesel Generator

Hello!
I want to read data from a diesel generator which has a RS-485 protocol for communication. The generator has a microcontroller PCC3300 and it shows the basic parameters on the built in LCD. Has anyone done this kind of project or please help me with the knowledge how can I do that with arduino?
