Boyfriend ripped all cords out

My boyfriend ripped all the cables out from the tv when I attempted to play a game on my ps2.... I cannot for the life of me get it hooked up properly again.... I can hear the audio but can't get video. I have an older multisystem cord, and I've swapped the tricolor A/V cables around multiple times. Sometimes it registers component, sometimes A/V, sometimes nothing. I've never considered myself tech illiterate, but I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. He's already left multiple welts on my head cuz I can't do anything right. I know it sounds dumb, but at this point, I REALLY need to figure this out for my own sanity. Can anyone help with what I might be doing wrong?
