Hudson Soft Chip Tunes

The HuCard is a ROM cartridge in the form of a card, designed for NEC's PC-Engine and PC Engine SuperGrafx video game consoles, which premiered in 1987 and 1989, respectively. In the United States, where marketed as the TurboGrafx-16, the HuCard is alternately called the TurboChip.

Hudson Soft Chip Tunes

Post by /turboG16 »

The TurboGrafx chip tune capabilities were ok at the time. Not bad at all, and there were many notable tunes found on the TurboGrafx at the time. Unfortunately, some of the worst tunes come from Hudson Soft titles. I never understood it. The absolute worst synth for the system Hudson Soft built. Compare that to the tunes found on the SNES from the same company which stands out as some of the best in the 16-bit lineup.
Doesn't it seem like a conflict of interest that Hudson created some of the cheapest sounding tunes for their own system while preferring their competitor's product? Just one example would be Adventure Island for both platforms.
Come on Hudson, you could have done better. Take a few tips from Konami who made excellent tunes for their titles.
Any thoughts?
